David Jones Photography
About
I'm Dave (DJ to my friends) and live in Caterham, Surrey with my wife, our two teenagers and our miniature schnauzer, Maisie!
I've been a professional wedding photographer since 2003 and am a Licentiate of the Society of Wedding and Portrait Photographers (LSWPP). I cover weddings in Surrey, Kent, Sussex, Hampshire and London.
My passion for photography must run in the family as my grandad was a professional photographer and he photographed Princess Diana in her wedding dress!
My journey to becoming a wedding photographer is, I think, quite interesting and is a story of fate! Back in the early 00's I begrudgingly attended a wedding as a 'plus one'. I didn't know a single person at this wedding but recognised the photographer who was a good friend of mine that I had lost touch with over the years. So I spent the day with Jenny, watching how she worked and interacted with the guests. I'd always been interested in photography but as I watched Jenny, she was so inspiring, I had this 'eureka' moment where I realised this was what I was meant to do.
Jenny agreed to take me under her wing as her 2nd photographer and over the next few years taught me everything I needed to learn about being a professional wedding photographer. Her teaching was invaluable as she not only taught me the photography side of things but also how to run a successful business, which is arguably just as important. I know she taught me well because I'm now celebrating my 20th year as a professional wedding photographer. Without that one chance encounter all those years ago I don't think I would be writing this here today, so thank you Jenny, you're a legend!
The best thing about being a wedding photographer is that I get to share one of the most important days in a couples' lives, with a first row seat to all the joy and emotions of the day, and the sheer buzz I get from capturing it all on camera, especially those moments that the couples themselves may have missed and will see for the first time when viewing their online gallery.
I could tell you about my friendly professional manner, and how I'll photograph your day in a natural unobtrusive style, capturing all those key moments and little details, but I probably couldn't say it any better than my previous clients, so please take a few moments to review the many wonderful 5-star reviews left for me on my Google page.
I've photographed hundreds of weddings in dozens and dozens of locations, both here in the UK and occasionally abroad. However, no matter how many times I've photographed at a venue I will always insist on meeting you at your venue before the wedding day, as I think this is a key opportunity to get to know more about you and critically, it gives us a chance to discuss the schedule of your day and put together a plan for your photography.
When I'm not photographing weddings you can usually find me on Epsom Downs flying kites, or out on my mountain bike hitting the trails on and around Leith Hill, and for as long as I can remember I've always had a fascination with tropical fish and have an unfeasibly large fish-tank which, to my wife's annoyance, takes up a significant proportion of the living room!
I am also one of the official photographers for Blues & Soul magazine. This incredible experience has provided me with the opportunity of meeting and photographing some very famous people, whilst also presenting me with some of the most challenging lighting conditions a photographer could ever face!. These are just a few examples of some of the amazing artists I've had the pleasure and privilege to photograph over the years!
